Learn the history of many of New Orleans' most historic homes as well as the stories of the myriad ghosts who haunt them! This is a walking tour so please wear comfortable shoes.

Start Location: Prytania Bar, 3445 Prytania St  (This is also the Chelsea pub.)

End: 3531 Chestnut St. (site of the evening reception)

5pm-8pm

Cocktails & Creole Cuisine

Bluesday Welcome Reception

3531 Chestnut St

Our evening Welcome Reception will be held in the historic Uptown home of a local Chelsea club member. Built in 1865, it is an excellent example of the Greek Revival Center Hall Cottages that make New Orleans an architectural gem. The hosts will be serving up some New Orleans creole staples along with various side dishes, king cake and an open bar. (This is a free event hosted by Crescent City Blues but donations gratefully accepted!)

This year as an added bonus there will be a live podcast taping of the "Chelsea against the World" Podcast.

7pm- 10pm

Parade Viewing

Chelsea faithful will gather at the corner of St. Charles Ave & Delachaise St. (only 3 block walk from the reception) to watch the Krewe of Oshun & Krewe of Cleopatra parades. Remember: "Go Cups" are legal in New Orleans, so feel free to take a "roadie" with you!

10pm-until..?

After the parades Chelsea Nation will walk one block down to the Prytania Bar - corner of Delachaise & Prytania Streets. This is our local Chelsea pub and the site of Saturday's Bluesday match. In Nola we sing like hooligans from the Shed End, so feel free to belt out any of your local team's favorite songs & chants. From there a group will coordinate going down to the French Quarter for some late night shenanigans.

Saturday.

Game Day and Parades

10:00 am MATCHDAY! (Kickoff at 11:30am)

Prytania Bar

3445 Prytania St, New Orleans

Come early to get the best parking, watch the early matches and pregame with us at our Chelsea pub. If you are visiting from out of town please bring your Club's scarf or flag - we will be taking a group photo at halftime!

Our Friends from the "London is Blue" podcast will be at the pub doing a live podcast starting at 10:15am! Don't be late!!

Raffle: There will be a raffle for a SIGNED team jersey at the game! (For every $10 donated to Bluesday you will receive one raffle ticket.)

Food: There will be a popup kitchen at the Prytania Bar for food.

1:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Parade Viewing

After the match we will walk one block up to a special Chelsea parade viewing area located near the intersection of St. Charles Ave & Delachaise St. (Look for the Chelsea flags!). Six different Krewes roll by that day. Drinks will be provided. (Viewing site will be monitored during the match if you want to drop off a camp chair or cooler ahead of time.)

Local's Tip: Bring a bag or backpack to hold all the beads and throws you're going to catch! A lightweight, easy to carry 3 step ladder can also be useful to stand above the crowds for a better view and to catch more throws!

7:30 pm - until

Music & Merriment on Frenchmen St.

Bourbon St. is ground zero for Mardi Gras debauchery, but if insane crowds and overpriced drinks are not your cup of West London tea then migrate instead over to the historic Frenchmen St. music district: two blocks of New Orleans music clubs, restaurants and an art bazaar located on Frenchmen between Royal & Decatur streets, adjacent to the French Quarter and walking distance to Bourbon St.

Local's tip: Adolfo's Restaurant is located upstairs above the Apple Barrel music club and housed in an 1800's creole cottage, has great Italian-Creole seafood reasonably priced. They don't take reservations so plan to arrive as early as possible and put your name on the list. One of the best little micro breweries in Louisiana, Brieux Carré, is located 1/2 block off Frenchmen on Decatur St. The Frenchmen Grocery and Deli is a great place to grab an inexpensive sandwich, to-go beer or bottle of spirits as you walk around and take in all the activity.

Sunday.

Uptown Parades

11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Three different krewes roll on St. Charles Ave beginning at 11:00 am. (Femme Fatale, Carrollton and King Arthur.)

Local's Tip: The Krewe of Barkus parade at 2PM in the French Quarter is one of the most unique parades in all of Mardi Gras. Think hundreds of dogs in costumes (some riding in mini floats) parading with their owners. (This is also a great time to wander over to Frenchmen St.)

1:15 pm - 3:30 pm

National WWII Museum CHELSEA Guided Tour (Named by Tripadvisor as the #1 attraction in New Orleans)

Led by Crescent City Blues Marine Chief Warrant Officer Eddie Gallegos and History teacher Roy Welsh (our club President) they will guide a tour with an emphasis upon major military events as well as notable Chelsea players who served in the war!

Tickets: $36 (Must be purchased online at https://www.nationalww2museum.org/buy-tickets)

Meet up: 1:15pm outside of main entrance. Tour begins at 1:30pm.

Questions/Contact: Eddie Gallegos (325-668-5386)

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

WHAT ABOUT PARKING AND BATHROOMS DURING PARADES?

Two of the most important logistical questions at Mardi Gras are "Where do I park?" and "Where do I pee?"

Parking: There is plenty of free street parking in the neighborhoods around the Chelsea pub and the Friday night reception host home, even during parades. We suggest parking on the south side (river side) of St. Charles Ave behind Touro Hospital, west (upriver) of Louisiana Ave.

Bathrooms: The Prytania Bar (one block off parade route) will be selling a wrist band good for all weekend to use their bathrooms. Chelsea supporters will receive a special rate. There are also numerous free Port-o-Potties at corner of St. Charles & Louisiana Ave one block from the pub.

HOW DO I GET TO THE PUB IF STREETS ARE CLOSED DURING PARADES?

We call that "getting inside the box" during parades. Most streets crossing the parade route remain open until about 45 min before parades start. The Uber & Lyft drivers know the drill, but if you're driving your own vehicle simply take the Tchopitoulos St. [Chop-a-too-liss] exit off Hwy 90 near downtown (the last exit before the Mississippi River bridge.) Turn right on Tchop and go west or ("up river" as we say) to Louisiana Ave, turn north and you'll find plenty of free parking in the neighborhood west of Louisiana behind Touro Hospital. Easy peasey.

Local's Tip: Download a free Mardi Gras Parade Tracker app to follow each parade's progress along their designated route.  Traffic can be extremely heavy so leave extra time to arrive at your destination!

OTHER THINGS TO DO

There are literally hundreds of things to do in New Orleans only a Google search away, but here are a few ticketed and free suggestions:

TICKETED

New Orleans Jazz Museum: Located at the foot of Frenchmen St in the old U.S. Mint, The New Orleans Jazz Museum celebrates the history of jazz, in all its forms, through dynamic interactive exhibits, multi-generational educational programming, research facilities, and engaging musical performances. Only $8 admission.

Local's Tip: 3 blocks away in the Quarter is the Mona Lisa cafe, good little spot for affordable Italian with a large and unusual collection of off-beat visual renditions of da Vinci's Mona Lisa. (Opens at 5pm)

Daytime Jazz Cruise on the Steamboat Natchez: (2 hr. cruise mornings & afternoons) This is the last authentic paddlewheel steamboat running on the Mississippi River. (All others are diesel fueled fakes.) Includes a meal and running narration of various sites along the river. (And yes, there are two bars on board.) https://www.steamboatnatchez.com/cruises-2/harborcruise.html

Local's Tip: walk below deck to the engine room to see the paddle wheel mechanism in action.

Second Line Parade and Tour with the Backstreet Cultural Museum: Join in one of New Orleans' famous Second Line Parades and get an insider's tour of the rich African American cultural heritage of Mardi Gras Indians (as seen in HBO's "Treme".) https://www.backstreetmuseum.org/secondline-tours

St. Louis Cemetery #1: Opened in 1789, this is the oldest cemetery in New Orleans with 600 interesting above ground tombs, including Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. (Entrance only as part of an organized tour.) https://cemeterytourneworleans.com/
